The 14 Podcasts You Should be Listening To

Are you a podcast enthusiast? Whether you’re new to the podcast world or a long-time listener, there’s a wide variety of content out there.  We asked our team to share what’s currently at the top of their must-listen to list and the variety of topics might surprise you.  From comedy, to neuroscience, to creativity, to leadership, here are the shows that have captured our attention and earned a permanent spot on our playlists.

Topic:  Science & Technology Related

  • Hidden Brain (Jen Mancke):  exploring the science behind human behavior. I find myself viewing interactions with others in a more thoughtful manner by having a different understanding of why people behave the way they do (not to mention how it has changed how I reflect on my own behavior!) Highly recommend for those who are looking to improve their personal and professional connections.
  • StarTalk with Neil deGrasse Tyson (Jalen Grimble):  Do you ever walk outside and just look to the sky and say wow? Does it pique your curiosity to know what’s out there and how we’ve come to find out? This podcast will either answer your questions or open your mind to make you go outside every day and turn to the sky and say… Wow!
  • The Happiness Lab with Dr. Laurie Santos (German Quesada):  provides great ideas and examples of how small things in life can help build happiness and how other big things don't matter. It's about personal growth with very down to earth conversations using scientific research that will help reframe the idea of what happiness is.
  • Manifold Podcast (Aadi Chauhan):  The wide range of topics explored with guest speakers - ranging from geopolitical situation in various countries to historical events, from tech to art to literature.

Topic:  Business & Leadership Related

  • The Female Quotient (Irene Barnett): Fascinating perspectives around navigating the business world (and the whole world) with a focus on the female experience (though a lot of it is not gender-specific) from a wide variety of leaders - Ester Perel to Tamika Catchings to Arianna Huffington.
  • How I Built This (hosted by Guy Raz) (Alex Nelson):  Inspirational to hear business and thought leaders from around the world tell their stories of how they invented or came up with incredible ideas that provide the products and services that make our lives better. This podcast does a great job of capturing the human side of these CEOs, Entrepreneurs, etc.
  • Women at Work (Sara Steenhuis):  I enjoy this podcast because it covers a wide range of topics related to work, balancing life and work and managing relationships in and outside the office. It’ll often have a topic that gets me thinking a little more about how I show up at work every day.
  • Maxwell Leadership Podcast (Sudha Kumar):  A regular examination of what it means to be a transformational leader—someone who daily influences people to think, speak, and act to make a positive difference in their lives and in the lives of others. The episodes provide clear application and a practical approach, going beyond buzz words and the work setting.  Check out “The Grounded Leader” and “Winning is an Inside Job” episodes.
  • Mel Robbins Podcast (Kimmy Arrowsmith):  discusses relatable topics with a vulnerability and strength that I find empowering and insightful. Her episode on people pleasing and its impact on health? Fascinating.

Topic:  Humor & Culture Related

  • This American Life (Sara Steenhuis & Ellen Roney):  Winner of the first ever Pulitzer Prize awarded to a radio show or podcast, This American Life is a weekly public radio program/podcast, where each week they choose a theme and pull together different kinds of stories on that theme.  Start with the “New to This American Life” episode.
  • Conan Needs a Friend (Jennifer Beres):  is my lighthearted listen while I'm remodeling/garden/working around the house. He's always able to land great guests, and the format of his show allows the interviews to be more flavorful than the usual TV interviews.
  • SmartLess (Kyle Renalds & Sarah Brown):  In each episode, one of the hosts (Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, & Will Arnett) introduces their mystery guest to the others bringing together people from all walks of life to learn about shared experiences through thoughtful dialogue and organic hilarity.

Topic:  Creativity Related

  • The Jealous Curator: Art for Your Ears (Ellen Roney):  This podcast gives some of the most successful contemporary artists a platform to talk about their art, their creative process, and what life is like as a full-time artist. This is a great listen for not only people that are in the visual arts but any creative looking for a spark of inspiration.
  • Creative PepTalk (Ellen Roney):  offers inspiring stories and actionable strategies to serve as a companion for your creative journey.
